Origin
Italian slate has the best combination of hardness and consistency. It is the standard for tournament play.
Thickness
19mm is tournament standard. Thinner slate (15mm) is acceptable for home play.
Grinding
Precision-ground slate is flat to within ±0.05mm. Non-ground slate can be off by 10× that.
